Restoration - what you need to know
Restoration - what you need to know
Remember if a photo is out of focus or blurred, there is very little that can be done to alleviate those problems.
Any other kind of damage can usually be repaired - Phil will contact you to discuss it.

Scanning a photograph / negative to send to Phil

To enable Phil to do the best possible work on your treasured image, the things you need to do are;

Ensure that;

The platen glass on your scanner is clean and dust free.

The photograph / negative is as dust free as possible, use a totally clean and very soft brush (Sable or similar).
Do not attempt to use anything else to clean it as you could irreparably damage it.

Scan only the photograph or negative, not the entire scanner bed / platen glass.

Scan at the highest DPI (Dots Per Inch) that you can.

Scan the image in colour, even if the image is in black and white.

Save the resulting scan as a TIF file only.

The file should be as an absolute minimum, 25 MB (Megabytes) in size.

If your e-mail provider has a size limit for file attachments, use a reliable sharing service.

Or
Send it to
info123@philrussellphotos.co.uk
(REMOVE the 123 from the address when you send it)

Do not forget to include your contact details with the file if you use a sharing service.

Posting your photograph / negative.

Use a stiff backed envelope of suitable size for posting.

Please use Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day by 1pm service with the highest level of insurance and tracking should it get lost in the system.

Please note: Phil will post back using the same method and the cost of this will be added to the restoration cost.

Do not forget to include your name, address and landline phone number in the covering letter.

This photograph was taken in the early 1890s.
With over a century of poor handling, dirt transfer, fading and other damage, the owner was very dubious as to whether or not anything could be salvaged.....
When I presented the owner with the restored image, she said; I have never clearly seen the face of my great grandmother as a young lady.
I am amazed and extremely pleased with what you have done. Thank you so much!
